I recently returned from a successful buying trip. One stop I typically make is the Kandaka Shoju-en Bonsai Nursery in Takamatsu, Japan. It's one of Shikoku Island's oldest and most respected bonsai nurseries. A focal point in the nursery is the massive pine named "Dohyo-iri," which means sumo "ring-entering ceremony". Its lower branches spread out over the ground, giving it the appearance of a sumo wrestler entering the ring.
