Please stop by and meet ceramicist Bob Hunter of Broken Branch Pottery. He is a seasoned potter with the skillset to create beautiful custom bonsai pots, including large sizes. You work hard cultivating your bonsai, so make the pot something special! Bob H. will have pots available for sale and will be taking custom orders. Hundreds of pots in stock and select bonsai will be on sale. Refreshments will be available. Hope to see you there!

FESTIVAL| Sakura Matsuri: Cherry Blossom Festival

Admission includes all film viewings, workshops, and theater presentations.

 Welcome spring to Long Island with the blooming of sakura (cherry blossoms), the sounds of taiko drums, and a wondrous array of Japanese cultural exhibits at the Wang Center! The Wang Center will provide many exciting activities, including Koto plays, Japanese traditional dances, martial arts demonstrations, hands-on bonsai workshops, calligraphy workshops, ikebana flower arrangement, tea workshops, manga drawing, origami paper folding, kimono dress-ups, and cosplay (costumed role-play of a Japanese manga character) for all ages. Please join us in your favorite manga character costume. 

 This festival is co-produced by the Japan Center at Stony Brook University and the Ryu Shu Kan Japanese Arts Center.

Bonsai Fundamentals - The session covers daily care/watering, fertilizing, pruning, styling, and maintenance. Class runs 10 AM-2 PM. Plant material (Juniper/outdoor bonsai is in stock), pot, potting medium, and use of studio tools included. Students are also welcome to bring their own tree. Please bring your own lunch, a pen, and a notebook. Advance registration/$75 non-refundable deposit is required. SPACE IS LIMITED. $180 per person. Each participant will be provided with all of the necessary tools and materials, including a small juniper tree, the ideal soil, a properly sized pot, wire to guide the tree's growth and a pair of pruning scissors. Bonsai is the ancient Japanese art of growing and cultivating miniature trees in pots. It is a subtle and elegant form that helps connect us to nature. Learn the artistic, philosophical, horticultural, and technical techniques to design, plant, and maintain your own bonsai.

Robert Mahler will lead a hands-on workshop where participants will be able to shape their own bonsai tree and learn about how to prune, shape, maintain, and re-pot bonsai trees.

Bob will be presenting a discussion on the basics of bonsai. The meeting starts @ 1000. The lecture begins at 1100. **Garden Gate was established in 1963 and became a member of the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs and National Garden Clubs, Inc. in June 1964. Since then, we have strived to fulfill our Mission Statement: To stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, aid in the protection of plants and wildlife, and encourage civic beauty.
